Show JAMES M. FERRIN DEAD, Pioneer of Webor County Closes Long and Notable Career. Special to Tho Tribune. OGDEN, Dec. 9. Another pioneer of Utah and Weber county was claimed by death yesterday when Jumes M. Ferrln died at his homo In Plain City. His death, which rosultcd after a lingering Illness, was duo to heart disease. Born at Randolph, N. Y July 14, 183G, Mr. Ferrln, as a boy, emigrated with hla parents to Springfield, 111., whore he resided re-sided until 1S52. In that year he Joined a company of Mormon emigrants Under the leadership of Captain Weeks and came to "Utah. Settling In Wober county, Mr. Ferrln, with tho help of his father and brother, erected the llrst sawmill In Ogden canyon and tho first warehouse In Ogden city. In the early settlement days of this city Mr. Ferrln served ns a policeman, po-liceman, and In 1860 ho was a member of Ca plain Layton's company In tho campaign against tho Indians of the Salmon Sal-mon river country. Mr. Ferrln Is survived by the widow nnd five children Mrs. Eliza Roso. St. Anthony, Idaho; Mrs. Salllo Henlngor, Pleasant View; Mrs. Lydla Jones, Ogden; Og-den; Joseph Ferrln of Jackson, Wyo., and Orson Ferrln, Rlgby, Idaho. Tho funeral arrangements havo not been announced. |
