An effort on the part of the students to bring about a restoration restora-tion of the cadet training to tho currlcif-lnm currlcif-lnm of thc Ogden high school will be brought officially to thc attention of thc board of education when a petition Is presented pre-sented at the next meeting of the school governing body. It is believed by thoso at the head of tho movement that the petition peti-tion will contain the names of nearly 200 boys, members of all classes, who dcslro to reinstate tho military drill. The cadet department after several years of rather uncertain existence was abolished on tho decision of Superintendent Superinten-dent John M. Mills and Principal Henry Peterson at the opening ' of the present school year. It was contented by them that not 100 boys out of the entire enrollment en-rollment had elected lo become members of the cadet battalion. Many more than this number had declared in favor of the department when the question was put to the students at a general assembly, according ac-cording to Superintendent Mills, but only 00 signed lo take up the regular course of training. The final decision In the matter was left to Superintendent Mills and Principal Peterson by the board of education. Those at the head of the petition movement move-ment are Newton Dills, John Lochhead, William Parker and Milton Conway, members mem-bers of the Junior and sophomore classes. |
