Show ISSUES DEFIANCE TO DEMANDS OF BANKERS Chairman Glass Speaks for Democratic Members of tho Houso Banking Committee. LYNCHBURG, Va., Aug. 31. Chniles Carter Gloss, chairman of the bouse banking committee, today issued defiance to the demands of the Chicago conference of bankers at their meeting Jasl ve:lr, which charged defects in tho ponding currency hill. Mr. Glass. In a formal statement, declared lhe correspondence files of his committee indicated that the majority of tho bankers of the country were in accord with the measure. "Speaking for tho. Democratic members of the committee," he said, "who have so far firmly resisted popullstic appeals to the prejudice fomented against bankers, bank-ers, we are Just as firm in our purpose not to yield to unreasonable demands on the part of bankers." Mr. Glass added there was no demand embodied in the Chicago conference resolutions reso-lutions "that hod noL been carefully considered con-sidered and carefully discussed by the committee." |
