Show (MEM THE GOVERNORS CLOSES Elxecutives Study Convict System of Road Building Near Colorado Springs. COLORADO SPRINGS. Colo., Aug. 20. Governors from twenty-five states, who havo been attending the conference of governors, which closed a three days' session at noon today, devoted the last few hours of their stay in the city to studying the copvlct system of road-bulldlng road-bulldlng which is being considered by many states of the union at the present time. Following the closing of the conference con-ference today, the stale executives were taken on on automobile tour over several sev-eral miles Of liighway through the mountains, moun-tains, constructed by convicts. They were the guests of Gov. n. M. Amnions of Colorado and warden Tynan of thc Colorado state penitentiary. Tonight Warden Tynan delivered a lecture lec-ture on road-bulldlng, uslnp stereopticon slides showing convicts at work on the highways of this 3tate and stretches of roads completed by convict labor. Many of the governors stated that they will seriously consider the system upon their return to their respective states. Tomorrow morning thc governors will leave for Denver, where they will be entertained en-tertained by the chamber of commerce tomorrow afternoon and evening. |
