Show TO DISCUSS PUB FOR OMITS Panama-Pacific Exposition Commission Will Meet This Evening. At tho governor's office in the city and county building tonight will be held a mooting of the Ponama-Pacillc exposition exposi-tion commission, appointed under act of the last legislature, for the purpose of devising best, ways and means of making use of the available appropriation for exhibition purposes. In a very material way the commission Is in a quandry, according lo one of Its members. Tho state legislature made an appropriation of $50,000 for a Utah display during the Panama-Pacific exposition, ex-position, that amount to be divided between be-tween two displays, one at San Francisco Fran-cisco and the other at San Diego, 'I he commission has found It to be impracticable imprac-ticable to make any adequate showing for the state with that amount of money, especially as it is to bo divided between these two expositions. There is some talk of making preparations prepara-tions In anticipation of a larger expenditure, ex-penditure, depending on the next session ses-sion of the legislature to meet the deficit that may bo Incurred. Business men generally gen-erally approve "such a move, provided there be no prospect of a special session of the legislative body. The commission Is desirous of making an immediate start with Its work of preparing the Utah show for San Francisco Fran-cisco and SVin Diego, but the moment thev begin this work the oxpenso bills begin to roll up, and it is feared that the appropriated amount will be dissipated dissi-pated with little to show for it when the time of display comes, At the meeting meet-ing to night there will be thorough discussion dis-cussion of the matter, and it is possible that some definite plan of proceeding on a basis of greater scope -than that permitted bv the ?50.000 appropriation may be evolvod. Idaho has appropriated $100,000 and Washington $150,000 and the Utah commission desires to make at least as good a showing as cither of those states. |
