Show EDUCATIONAL FUND SECURED BY LIBERIA WASHINGTON. Ocu 7. The American Colonization society, the only private corporation cor-poration In history that ever successfully success-fully established an Independent nation, today paid over to Its ward (Liberia) more than 560,000, the Increment of an Idle fund, for tho education of the children chil-dren of the' negro republic. Tho fund was the bequest of Caroline Donovan of Baltimore, devised twenty-seven years ago for this purpose, but it had not been possible to arrange for the proper disbursement dis-bursement of the, interest. In addition to the $60,000 paid today to Consul General Ernest Lyons of Liberia, Li-beria, by Dr. Henry L. E. Johnson, president pres-ident of the society, tho annual Interest on the fund will be used hereafter to pay in aiding American negroes desirous of emigrating to Liberia. |
