Show SPENCER TO HAVE AN EARLY HEARING Self-confessed Murderer to Be Tried as Soon as Possible. CnrCAGO, Oct. 7. A. speedy trial for tho niurde.ror of Mrs. Mildred Alii-son-Tiexroat on September 25 was today promised Henrj' Spencer, whose confessions confes-sions of twenty murders, woven by an opium clouded brain, dumfounded tho police Tho authorities will continue to investigate his fantastic stories in the hope or establishing furthor facts, His admission of tho Rcxroat crime is substantiated j ho is known to have committed many of the largo number of burglaries ne has confessed and thoro is a possibility that he mav have slain Mrs. Annabel' Wight last December. Decem-ber. Spencer will be detained at tho detective de-tective bureau only as long as persons can be found who might identify him for crimes, In a few days he will be turned over to tho authorities of Dupage Du-page county, where Mrs. Itoxroat was killed. Spencer spent a sleopless night and this morning was extremely nervous. When Spencer was shown telegrams from Delavan, Wis., and Paw Paw Lake, Mich., stating no such murders as he dosenbed were ever committed there, tho prisoner smiled and said: i "I killed those womon just as I1 have told you. I don't caro what those county sheriffs say." Mrs. Sarah Schramm today identified Spencer as the man who lodged at her house last winter and attacked her with I a hammer. He was frightened away by tho return from school of Mrs. Schramm's daughter. "Do you know this woman?" Spencer was asked. "Her face Is familiar." "Did you hit her on tho head with a hammer?" "What Is her address?" Spencer asked. "Number 1937 Lincoln avenue." "Oh, yes; I remember. I hit her on tho head with a hammer." It was agreed that the trial of Harry Spencer for the murder of Mildred Mil-dred Allison Rexroat should be expedited by every means in the power of the board Sponcer was Indicted here yesterday and probably will be brought here from Chicago next Friday. |
