Show UTAH TO AWAIT FURTHER ACTION i Apparently Nothing to Do Re-gavding Re-gavding Senatorial Elections Until Congress Acts. As there is nothing to be done until congress fixes the details of election, Attorney General Barnes is of tho opinion opin-ion that the state of Utah ha3 nothing to say alKtut the direct election of United States senators. Excepting insofar as .such statutes arc taken to be in agreement agree-ment with the federal laws, the election of senators is not specified in the statutes stat-utes of Utah, the constitution of the state being silent on tho subject. The attorney general says that, in a way. the question of whether or not a special election will bo necessary do-pends do-pends on the Interpretation of tho term "representatives In congress." Provision in made In the constitution of the state for the calling of special sessions of the legislature, by proclamation, on extraordinary extraor-dinary occasions, It being ncccEsary to state the nature of the business in the proclamation, no other business to be considered at that session. The state law relative to special elections elec-tions provides that a proclamation must be Issued by tho governor at least sixty days before a general election, and not loss than ten days hoforo a special election, elec-tion, to fill a vacancy In the office of representative In congress or a member of the legislature. |
