Show VARSITY ATHLETES THRONG TD CAMPUS Prepare for Big Handicap Track Meet Tomorrow; Freshies Show Up Well. The cold wind which has been so keenly keen-ly in evidence all spring on the university campus was entirely missing yesterday, and the warm sun brought tho athletes out in such numbers that the field looked as though a carnival wcro being held. The sprint men were out and wont through somo hard work. Probablv a greater stimulus than warm weather was the desire to get Into tho winning In tho big spring handicap meet which will bo held tomorrow afternoon. Tills Is an event which is attracting much interest among tho entire student body and which promises to show some good sport. Tho" purpose of the event is to enable tho coach to get a line on his new material bv seeing the fellows in competition competi-tion with "tho old-tlmors. Every veteran on the sqtmtf will bo asked by tho coach to enter the meet. Some of the freshies who have ncvor tried athletics beforo are showing - up strong and with a little handicap will be able to make tho veterans hustle. Chief among these arc WJoolley and Cutler. Woolley is the man who captured the big cross-countrv run In such pretty style. Ho will enter in tho mile and two-mllo runs and will be a strong opponent of both Captain Colo and Jameson. Cutler is a strong middle-distance man. having covered the half-mile in 2.0H already tills spring and the quarter in .TiC. The baseball men also had a snappy practice last night. Tho first team lined up against the second team for about five innings. No score was kept. Both teams aru fairlv evenly matched as far as fielding field-ing Is co'ncerned, but tho first team boys are the more vicious sluggers. |
