A third political poli-tical party was launched In Indiana late today when progressive Republicans called from all over the state bv Edwin M I ee. former Republican state chairman, adopted resolutions condemning the Chicago Chi-cago convention and declaring thev would not abide by its acts. e Provision was made for tickets in every county as well as n state ticket. During the- speeches. Thoodore Roosevelt's name frequentlv brought forth cheers. 4 ' The conference effected temporary organization or-ganization by electing Ewin M. Leo state chnirman and Harvey B. Stout Jr, secretary. sec-retary. Mr. Lee was authorized to appoint ap-point an executive, committee and to call a state convention. W. D. Hedrick of Indianapolis and G. K Stlmson of Lafayette, were the leading opponents of the. third party Idea. Mr Stlmson was a member of the resolution committee and brought In a. mlnorltv report re-port against the third party. Mr, Stlmson Stlm-son said that while he was with tho other members at heart; he believed thev could win out by remaining within the- Republican Repub-lican party His report was not put to a vote. Mr. Hedrick expressed the same views, declaring the progressives could capture the Republican state convention and "clean house." The national convention of progressives will be Invited to meet in Indianapolis. |
