Show Novel Railroad Experiment. NEW YORK. Jan. 20. A heavily-loaded heavily-loaded freight train of fourteen cars was put through a novel experimental test on the tracks of tho New York Central railroad near Croton today, under tho direction of Coroner Squire of Westchester Westches-ter countv, who Is investigating the Montreal express wreck, in which Spencer Trask, New York hanker, was killed. The train, Bald to be Identical in equipment equip-ment with that of the freight that crashed Into the express, was run down the track until It reached the signal said to hove been set against tho freight on the day of the wreck. It was humming along at thirty miles an hour when the engineer set the brakes and the train came to a stop in 10GS feet. Testimony had been given at the Inquest that a train of the kind could not be stopped In loss than 3200 feet. It was also testified that tho stalled express was not sighted until the freight was within 1732 feet of It. |
