Clark of the National Railways Rail-ways of Mexico today refused demands of the engineers and conductors In the service of the merged system, mado last Monday. Just what the demands were has not been given out by tho railway officials or by their employees. Roplylng to requests of the mon for a statoment of the attitude of tho railroad toward employees, Mr. Clark said ho could only reitorntc what already had been officially stated, that so long as employees, either foreign or native, performed per-formed their duties in a satisfactory manner, they would be retained In the service. He disclaimed any Intention on tho part of the railroad to discriminate discrim-inate against the mon, native or foreign. It is reported tonight that tho conductors con-ductors and engineers arc far from bo-ing bo-ing satisfied with the reply of Mr. Clark, but none of them will venture an opinion opin-ion 03 to what action they will take, although It Is rumored the majority arc either in favor of taking their grievances to the higher authority or resigning in a body. |
