Show CHURN DRILL IS PRDPERJLETHOD W. S. McCorniek Impressed by Modern Methods at Chino and Ray Con. . INTERESTING WAV OF MAPPING ORES Ray Mill Will Be Operating in February and Smelter in July. Investigation of tho churn drill mothod of developing tho grreat low-grade, low-cost low-cost copper deposits of the west invariably invari-ably converts every one to tho Justice of the claimn that such mining methods arc both logical and productive of safe results. That thla is a correct method of development Is tho opinion of W. S. McCornlck, the veteran Salt Lake hanker, hank-er, who has returned from hla lirst vlall. to the Chlno and tho Ray Consolidated properties. At the Chino Mr. McCornlck saw for tho Ural tlmo the new mlno maps that arc one outgrowth of modern copper mln- ngr. These maps arc simply a largo board representing the outlines of the property. Wherever tho management has drilled with chum drills a. small peg is uscrtod in the board. ICach peg tells Its own story. The top of the peg Is the surface, of tho property, below comos a ring of white, denoting the thickness of the overburden in miniature. Tho thickness thick-ness of the ore Is shown by dark paint, so, looking over the hundreds of pegs displayed, dis-played, one gols a comprehensive Idea of the average thickness of tho overburden over-burden and of the ore deposit. "I had never seen mine nlans so ar ranged, said Mr. McCornlck to Tho I rlbunc on Thursday, "and tho arrangement arrange-ment struck mo as being very novel and correct. 1 enjoyed my trip very much. Tho Chlno Is not only a big mine, but It Is a line place In which to live. They have been mining on this property for over a century, tho early operators taking tak-ing Iho rich ore, or native conpor, down Into Mexico by pack train. "Tho Ray Consolidated company has a large tonnage developed, and a largo amount of ore Ir. already mined and on the dumps awaiting treatment at the mill. Everything ut the new mill appears to be getting along nicely. The management expects to begin the shipment of concentrates con-centrates In February next. Tho smeltor will hardly bo ready before the following: July, and the product of tho mill for the time boing will be shipped to the El Paso smelters." |
