Show Against Polygamous Teachers in the Public Schools Editor Tribune: The article by C. E. Arnoy in yotrr dally of January 2D, relative rela-tive to polygamous wives as public school teachers In Preston. Ida., was a recital of facts, and an admonition to school officials of-ficials that should receive attention. Let it be hoped that such will be the case. One class of Mormons seem to think it all right to have polygamous teachers In the public schools. They reason that because it Is right from their viewpoint. The Tribune is mean in condemning such practice. Such people arc a narrow-minded narrow-minded set. Their narrowness cannot make vicious examples pure, nor change the moral standards of Christendom, nor make tho public school an Institution to please Mormons only. There arc Mormons Mor-mons liberal enough to dejdro public schools to which Gentiles without disgust can send their children. Theyydo not wish worthy people to emlgrato from town by reason of such practices as Mr. Arncy castigates the Mormons of Pros-ton Pros-ton and Idaho for indulging In. Yhll some Mormons may say If these Gentile parents do not wish to send their children to the public schools ns we manage It. let them go where they can bo suited and where polygamous wives arc not considered con-sidered suitable for public schools teachers. teach-ers. But there arc Mormon business men who wish to sell goods and land, and Induce eilk'.ons to come into town and stay and pay. aud be at home, and have publlr schools acceptable to all classes of reasonable people. Let such assert themselves. It is not a trivial matter to have polygamous examples bolstered up by the authority of the state and county before, hundreds of school childien. Mr. Arncy has hit this thing none too severely. se-verely. If the attorney general and state superintendent su-perintendent of public schools In Idaho, and the countv superintendent, think It is all right to kep on in this way. what do tho people in Idaho think? Publish the facts, r.ct it be known who is responsible. re-sponsible. It Is to be hoped that Ibis is the last school year when the state of Idaho, and town and public school of Preston, will he. advertised in this way. It Is time to quit It. AMERICAN CITIZEN. Preston.
