Friends of legislation at this session of congress for tho admission or Arizona and New Mexico Mex-ico as states are now confident that the road to joint statehood is open. They believe that lho obstacles which have hitherto existed In the senate have been about removed. Senator Beveridge. chairman of the sonalc committee on territories, will present the--'administration hill for their admission as states, up to this time Senator Bovorldge has been disposed to oppose tho admission. The administration, however, has been anxious lo bring about joint statehood. President Taft believes tho territories should be admitted, and has conferred with Beveridge. Tho result Is lliat the senator will no longer make any effort lo block tho legislation. |
