Edward Hines, named before the Helm legislative com-mittee com-mittee In connection with the collection of nu alleged 5100,000 fund to elect United States Senator William Lorimer. today took occasion before reading his D annual address to the National Lumber- men's association, of which he Is pros -dent, to defend his acts and to flay his HHHJ accusers. , , , Following an all night, session, the board of governors of the National Liim- her Manufacturers association adopted a resolution expressing confidence in Presl- illl dent Mines, which was adopted by the as- sociatlon Immediately after tho presl- dent's address. Mr. Hines said in part: III "1 deem it proper at. the outset to say BflflH a word respecting certain charges that have been made against mu and in some I Instances against the lumber Interests in Jill relation to national affairs. I have III no apology to mak,c for my conduct as III an individual or as an officer of the as- III sociatlon. nor have you or any other fac- tor of the lumber Industry any apology to make for Its conduct and attitude toward national affairs. "So far as I personally am concerned, fl at the proper time and by the proper procedure I shall vindicate myself and HHfl confound mv iraduccrs before a tribunal that will not bo n srotesque travesty on law and justice a mere tool of poll- tics and the subservient organ of unfair JHHH and unscrupulous journalism. "I shall not only welcome, but I shall insist on the fullest Investigation as to my action In these matters, where the sanction of the law will bring out the ll! truth and expose the falsehood.
