The terribly mutilated body of a woman, believed to be that of Mrs. 11. N. Castle, who was Mary Crittenden Scott of San Jose. Cal., was found In a trunk today submerged In a lako near tho vlllago of Moltraslo. Wrapped about the body was a piece of cloth which bore the Initials "G. L.." and from letters found in the trunk, written in English. It appoars that the woman, in 190G. lived in Thirty-fourth street. New York City. The police, basing their opinion on wounds on the heud. evidently made bv a blunt instrument, believe that the woman wo-man was murdered and have taken into custody a Russian named Constantino fspr'atoff. Several persons who had known tho woman In life and viewed her body today to-day declared that she had told them she had been married to Porter Charlton, the .on of an American naval officer. Charlton Charl-ton is described as being 23 years old. and Is said onco to havo been a student nt the University of Pennsylvania. The woman apparently was about 35 years old. When tho body was found. It was recalled re-called that recently a young couple had occupied a villa on tho shore of tho lake. Three days ago they disappeared and havo not since been seen by the peoplo of tho neighborhood.
