Show FOURTH OF JULY PLljlSGUSSES Outlook for Safe and Sane Celebration Cele-bration Could Not Ho Brighter. GENERAL COMMITTEE DISCUSSES THE MATTER Excellent Programme Is Now Being Arranged for the Occasion. The gencial committee- having in charge the safe and sano celebration of Independence Inde-pendence day mot at tho Commercial club Tuesday night and decided dotlnltely on tho principal features of the day's programme. Contrary to expectations there will be no parade, tho committee agreeing that thero was hardly time to prepare for this Important feature. Tho greater part of the programme will be carried out at Liberty park. Beginning Begin-ning at 10 o'clock In the morning and continuing until 10 -15 o'clock, a grand band concert of patriotic airs will be given. Immediately after this, tho beautiful beau-tiful ceremony of raising tho Hug will be performed by ten little girls. At U. o'clock will bo commenced the musical and literary programme, as follows: fol-lows: Invocation; song. "Tho Slar-Spangled Slar-Spangled Runner;" reading of Declaration Declara-tion of Independence: plcdgo of allegiance; alle-giance; song. "Our Flag." by a chorus of children; solo. "Flag Without a Stain:" address: medley of patriotic airs; singing sing-ing of "America." In the evening there will be a magnificent magnifi-cent display of fireworks, most likely from Capitol bill. A Udv sum was set apart by the conunltleo for this purpose and a contract will likely bo signed today with some company of recognized standing stand-ing to handle tills feature A provision of tho contract will likely call for the sending by the company of an expert to supervise the dtsoluu-go of the lire-works. lire-works. Pledge of Allegiance. The pledge of allcgience, which is a part of tho musical and literary programme pro-gramme of the morning, will bo given at a general public gathering In Salt Lake City for perhaps tlio lirst time. The words of this pledge follow: "I pledge allfglonce to my flag and to the republic for which it standu; one nation, indivisible, with Justice and liberty for all." Among tho features for the day. which have been only tentatively decided on. are a balloon ascension and sporLs for the children in the aftornoon. Tho committee, com-mittee, Carl A. 'Badger, chairman. Invite communication from any person who Is desirous of making a balloon ascension, with parachute jump, on that day. It Is likely that match basketball and bnso-ball bnso-ball games will also be arranged as part of the afternoon sports. Use of Explosives. Considerable discussion was hod by mombcrs of the committee with regard to the prevention or the restriction of tho ucs of explosives on Independence day. A resolution was passed to the cffcci that the mayor bo requested to sco that the ordinance be strictly observed ob-served with regard to not allowing the use of firearms and other kinda of explosives ex-plosives beforo midnight of July o and after midnight of July 4. Present at the meeting Tuesday night wero Carl A. Badger, Colonel E. A. Wedgwood, Wedg-wood, J. E. Calne, C. J. Frcund. B. F. Redman. Miss Ethel Paine. Mrs. Mary P. Loomls, E. P. Midgloy and D. 1U Coombs. The next mooting of the committee will bo held Saturday night at S o'clock at the Commercial club. At tills meeting meet-ing further detailed plans for the big celebration -will be discussed. Tho appropriation appro-priation bv tho council of $2000 assures the committee of ample money for the carrying out of till arrangements already made and likely to bo made. |
