Show A REBEL PREACHING LOYALTY. The Tribune f .ires to make. another reference to that sermon which President Presi-dent Joseph F. Smith preached at Logan Lo-gan on Sunday, November 21, and which was printed in ihe Logan Republican of November 27. 1909. Joseph F. spoko of tho method by which ono could ha've tho spirit of righteousness to guide him in .every act the only means by which one Could either do good or have an influence for' good among the people. .Ho urged tho saints to get into that class of individuals, and lie pointed out to them the only wa3 Said he: That one way "to "pet In Is repentance of am and admission to the door of the sheep-fold ns the Lord Jesus has pointed point-ed out. There- Is no other way to uet in and any person who. If he undertakes to get In In any other way, Is onlv u thief nnd u robber and he cannot succeed except that It Is by ronentnnee, by genuine genu-ine contrition, by acknowledgment of God s right to govern and to rule, arid to forsako all weakness, and to forsake all. acts of wicked wrong-dolns. and forsaking forsak-ing It, yos, absolutely foroaklng It. Consistent, that, isn't it, from a man wlio pretends to be God's exemplar to all mankind, but who is so far away from repentance ttiat he defiantly says he makes personal choice to commit sin? He refuses to go in at "the do.or of the' sheep-fold, as the Lord Jesus had nointed out." because iij the first place, ho refuses to repent of the sins to which he makes confession. lie has set himself him-self out, as he quotes, totf a "thief and a robber, ?& in that he is attempting attempt-ing to "get in" in some other way than by the one which hcv declares is the - 'only 'legitimate .one. He advocates advo-cates "acknowledgement of God's right to govern and t'o rule," yet he declared at Washington that God had no such right, because ho (Smith) personally hud tho right to oboy or disobey God, just as he chose, and that this was the kind of a God he believed hi. He said at Logan that the only way to get the. spirit of the Lord was "to forsake all weakness, and to forsako all acts of wicked wrong doing, and forsaking it, yes, absolutely forsaking it." According Accord-ing to tho rule of tho Mormon church (pretondodly tho word of God) and the law of tho land, .Joseph V.'s present mode of living betrays a " wenkness" upon his purt; it is "wicked wrong doing" in the eyes of God and man; but ho has stated repeatedly that ho has not forsaken it, and that ho' docs not intend to forsako it, either "absolutely" "abso-lutely" or otherwise.' From tho looks of the thing, and according ac-cording to his own words, so far as possession of any maimer of spirit is concerned, what a devil of a -predicament Joseph F. must bo inl |
