This was decided de-cided upon by a unanimous voto of the Board of Education, sitting as a committee com-mittee of the whole, Thursday afternoon. after-noon. Christensou 's recommendation recommenda-tion in making cooking sl part of tho curriculum. j Tho quest ion came before the board at, a July ninoting. but 0. S. Ho brought down upon himself considerable caustic comment com-ment from Salt Lake City's housewiy.es bv the declaration that girls should bo ablo to learn how n cook in throo weeks' pxperience, which apparently caused him to withdraw his opposition to cooking as a part, of the study course, as he did not voto against it. A room will be set apart in tho Union school, which adjoins I lie high school building, for cooking purposes, mid an instructor employed immediately. Tho estimated expense of the course the first year will bo $1730, of which $1000 will go ro securing a teacher and the roinauuler for equipment, and supplies. The following additional teachers were appointed: Blanche Staats, Jean McNeill, Marion MeEwan. Helen Monroe, Mon-roe, Ida McDonald and Ella Loweustcin. Edgar Mitchell was selected to assist D. W. Parratt in tho supervision of manual training. Tho board also decided to furnish tho Uintah Industrial school, for juvenile offenders, with text -books, desks and other apparatus, so that the institution may run through the winter. Children sent to that institution will receive instruction in-struction in all tho .common branches if tho plana of tho board do not miscarry. |
