WORLD-FAMOUS TREES SAVED FROM FLIES Heroic Fight of Three Days and Nights Proves Successful; Fire Under Control. SONORA, Cnl.. Sept. 3 The forest firo which since Monday has threatened tho famous big tree grovo in this county, has been brought, under control, and tho great trees aro safe. After an heroic light for three days and nights the rangers, rang-ers, aided by a chango iu tho wind, got the better of tho flames. They aro ntlll working In isolated portions of tho grove, extinguishing the last sparks, so that the fire may not break out afresh. Considerable damngo hns been dono to the big trees, but It Is not thought maiiv of them will die from tho scorching, especially es-pecially If the fall rains begin early. -Several of the dead giants of the forest have been badly burned.
