The thirty-fourth annual grand lodge of tho I. 6. O. F. begun, its sessions Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock in Iho Odd Fellows temple on Market street. There wore nearly a thousand members of Ihe diflc-reiit lodges-of Utah in the city but only ISO of these are delegates to the, grand lodge. Grand -Master L'lnier opened the session ses-sion with an address of welcome. TJiis was followed bv his report in which ho set forth the exact condition of the lodge at the nrosent time and the work accomplished during the past year. In his report Mr. Ulmer said that owing to the fiminci.il condition of the country during the pjist six mouths tho membership had not increased as much as was anticipated but it was above the average of former years. After the report of Mr. Ulmer was : completed the commit iees which aro to take care of the work of the grand lodge were appointed. In all fourteen eoniniit,tees were put at work. The appointing of Ihe. committees was finished fin-ished at 12 o'clock ami a recess was declared until 2 o'clock. V. W. Thompson, Grand Master. At the afternoon session other routine. rou-tine. business was attended to and the officers elected for the coining year. As vet tho committee appointed to count the ballots received by the various vari-ous candidates jfor office has not reported, re-ported, but tt is known that. W. W. Thompson was elected grand master. The officers who were elected will not take their seals until after the present pres-ent session is over. Mr. Thompson is now sii-k in tho Fast and a vote of sorrow was sent to hi in. At -l..'iJ o'clock the parade started from in front of the temple. The order of (he parade follows: Mounted policemen; po-licemen; two squads of patrolmen under un-der SiTge.au Is Honinc! and Johnston; Fifteenth Infantry band; Grand Marshal Mar-shal Lepper and Assistant Marshal C. A. Street; grand lodge officers in carriages; car-riages; velerau members of Ihe order; Hebekah assembly on float ; Prove band; members of the Provo lodge dressed as farmers and the representatives of other Utah lodges. I'rovo had the largest delegation of any city in the State except Salt Lake, there being over one hundred in the division of the Utah county lodge. Rebekahs Aro Hosts. The evening session opened with an exhibition of floor work by tho He-bekahs. He-bekahs. The drill tennis of several lodges gave an exhibition drill that was highly praised. The decoration of chivalry was conferred con-ferred on Mrs. W. It. Hepper. of Salt Lake Citv; Mrs. Hadlev. of Murray, and Mrs. X. C Price of Salt Lake City, by Patriarch Milihan. 'The visiting members of (ho grand lodge were the guests of tho Kebckahs at a banquet at the lemple. It is estimated es-timated that nearly 2o0 wore present at the banquet. , All officers of the grand lodge present reseponded to toasts. The o Dicers of the present grand lodge follow: F. .M. Ulmer, grand master; W. W. Thompson, deputy grand master; A. Stuart, grand warden; P. A. Stinpkin, grand secretary; W. H. Breretnn, grand treasurer; W. IF. Lepper. grand marshal; mar-shal; William Cowley, grand guardian; (.'. H. Koherts, grand conductor;" W. A. lloliiwin. grand herald; S. IF. Goodwin, grand chaplain, and P. Pratt, grind messenger. The programme for Wednesday will start at 10 o'clock in tho morning. I'.oth the forenoon and the afternoon sessions will be take'li up with routine business, and degree work. In the evening eve-ning Ihe installation of ollicers will take place. |
