Show A GOOD COMPROMISE. "Wo aro glad to seo that, the City Council has found a way lo proceed without further delay in paving East First South street. This fine improvement improve-ment was in peril by reason of the apparently ap-parently inflexible differences of opinion opin-ion among the property owners in their preferences' as botween Utah asphalt and California asphalt. A candid sip-pceal sip-pceal to the property owners, however, appears to have been effective in soft-" ening the asperities of opinion, and the work will now go on. under the ;Moran bid, with a bond which will amply protect The city. Both kinds of asphalt will be used. Thnt is the right spirit' for public-spirited public-spirited citizens to show. Both kinds of asphaltum have been tried in this city, and both arc good. But never have they been used in such proximity as they will bo here. Tf tlic property owners on a block agree upon Utah asphalt as-phalt they can have it. If thoso on an-othor an-othor block want California asphalt, they can have it. The street crossings will be paved with California asphalt. Thus a perfect test, under conditions identical will bo afforded as between the two kinds of asphaltum. And this test, besitles being fnir all around, will later on be of great benefit to the city, if it should dovelop any marked difference dif-ference in quality as botween the two. It is a good compromise, and it allows a desirable work to go on. |
