Show COAL OPERATORS MO IBS 10 CONFER Men at Rock Springs Mines May Make Another Demand for Higher Wages. While the price of coal ultimately will be raised b3 all the coal companies in this cit3", the Kemmorer and the Western Fuel company are the only two organizations thus far which have advanced ad-vanced the price. A general increase is not expected for a week or two yet. So far as tho operators of the mines at Rock Springs are concerned, the3' will not advance the price until after thc3 have met with the union miners. When the latter returned to work three weeks ago they were granted a 10 per cent increase in wages; but work only was resumed on the distinct understanding un-derstanding that there should in the near future be a conference between the operators and Tcprosentatives of the men, at which a wage schedule should be finally deterraineci. This conference has not yet been held. It ia surmised that at this conference confer-ence the men will demand a further wage increase. What it will be and whether it will be granted is not known, but. that demand will be a facior in the increase of tho price of coal to the consumer. If the miner gets more money the consumer will pay it; it will not be taken out of the profits of tho operators or the reduction of tho freight, rates. In the meantime, tho production of coal at Rock Springs is somewhat, limited limit-ed on account of shortage of miners. All local dealers are still taking orders for coal subject to price at time of deli de-li vary. |
