Show CHURCH IS HOW IN HTIL Has Democratic State Committee Commit-tee in Same Grasp as It Has Smoothes. MARTINEAU IS CHOSEN TO SUCCEED BAMBERGER Date for the State Convention Is Fixed for Thursday ' October 4. The church is now in full control of! the Democratic State committee, as it is of the eit' and county committoes. At the meeting held on Friday the resignation of Simon Bamberger, who has been tho Gentile head of the committee, com-mittee, was accepted and L. R. Alar-tincau Alar-tincau was chosen in his stead. This is in accord with the prediction made in these columns, that u Mormon would be soloctod to head the committee. M. F, Cunningham was chosen secretary of the committee, vice Joseph Cohen, who has joined the ranks of the American Amer-ican party. Martincuu, who has been running tho committee for some timo past for the church, now has absolute control. lie will issue a call, as chairman chair-man of the county committee, for n meeting of that body at an early day to consider the question of the appointment ap-pointment of u successor to himself, lie was delegated by the committee to appoint an executive and a finance committee) and this ho will do at an early date. As to tho date of the State convention, this was also given over to Mr. Marti neau, and he has decided lo call it for Octobor -1. Thero were eighteen members of (Ho State committee commit-tee present, viz.: Senator Simon Bamberger, Bam-berger, Senator A. G. Barber of J-ogan, P.- M. Maughan of Cacho county, Thomas Thom-as Phillips of Davis county, Ashby Snow, holding :i proxy from Washing-ion Washing-ion county; D. H. Peory, National committeeman, com-mitteeman, with a proxy from Box-Elder; Box-Elder; Judge T. Murineaux, holding a proxy from Beaver county; Fisher S. llarr'is, speaking for Uintah; Andrew B. Morgan, from Utah county; Joseph Phillips, from Juab; Mat Tliomus, L, It. Martincau. John Dern, S. A. King, .T. F. Gibbs. with a proxy from Sevier; Josoph Hyde, with a proxy from Sanpete, San-pete, and James JI. Moyle. A careful reading of the speech delivered de-livered by Brigham II. Roberts at Salt-nir, Salt-nir, at th'o Democratic pov-wov Thursday, Thurs-day, shows one thing that stands out more prominent than all else, and that is, that the church knew exactly what ho was going to say. His denunciation of Smoot was a part of the play. This was to hoodwink the rank and lile. His declaration of no interference upon tho part of the church in politics is simply a repetition of formor speeches. His Snltnir speech, however, differs from his declaration at the reconvened convention con-vention in 1S95, when ho declared there was church interference. He attempted attempt-ed to hold out then, with Moses Thatcher, Thatch-er, for personal political liberty. The latter was unfrocked as an apostle for his temerity in opposing the church in politics, and Elder Roberts was given his choice of cither obeying the hierarchy hie-rarchy or being read out of the church. Ho choso the former nnd was made a president of tho seventies as a reward for his subservience and received re-ceived back into full fellowship. 2so man in tho church holding the position that Elder Roberts does would dare make the public utterance that lie did nt Saltair without an understanding with the hierarchy the band of twenty-six. The church is in politics; that is, the hierarch', the band of twenty-six. The Federal appointments made in Utah-show Utah-show this, even, if nothing else did. Look at the list: Spry, William, U. S. Marshal, Mormon. Mor-mon. Callister, Ed (Ourly), Mormon, U. S. Collector Internal Revenue. Thomas, Arthur, Postmaster, Salt Lako, Jack Mormon, tool of the hierarchy. hie-rarchy. Booth, Hyrum E., U. S. Attorney, Jack Mormon and all-around fawner and cringer of the church crowd. Anderson, James H. (Navajo Jimmy), Chief Deputy Colloctor Internal Revenue, Mormon, and man who posos as the ospecial friend of President Roosevelt. Smoot, Reed, Apostle of L. D. S. church, representative of the hierarchy, indorser of polygamists, traitor to his country by his own sworn testimony; tes-timony; claims to bo mouthpiece , of Almighty God and the President Presi-dent of the United States, and boss of tho alleged Republican party in Utah. Howell, Josoph, Mormon, Representative Representa-tive in Congress from Utah; sponsor spon-sor for Bill Glasmann of Ogdon: ab.i'ect tool of tho hiorarchy. Sutherland, George, Apostate Gentile, junior representative of tho band of twenty-six in tho United Stntos Senate; cringer and crawler and servile tool of tho hierarchy. Hull. Thomas, U. S. Surveyor-Genera, Mormon. Speaker of the House in the Legislature that elected Apos-tlo Apos-tlo Smoot to the United States Senate. This list is absolute proof that the hierarchy is in politics. The hand is too plainly scon. Fussy Jimmy is tho main go-between with tho officials and the hierarchy. He does the visiting to church headquarters. Others lay the wires. He is the catspaw that pulls out tho chestnuts. And now former Senator Rawlins is suggested as the church Democratic candidate for. Judge of the Supremo court. H The Smootites thought they were working a smooth game in pushing Deputy Sheriff Joe Sharp for tho Sheriff Sher-iff "a office. But the expose made showing show-ing that C. Frank Emery, the present incumbent, and who is serving his fourth year as Sheriff, was really tho man that waa wantod by the hierarchy, has caused considerable talk in and about tho joint building. Sheriff Emery it will bo remembered, was tho Sheriff to whom tho warrant for tho arrest of Apostle Heber J. Grant waa given In some way or other, perhaps by a whisper, Heber J. was advisod, nnd tho man with a plurality of wives managed to elude tho Sheriff, flee tho country ; the English mission of the" hierarchy, with headquarters in Liverpool. 4 Today is tho last day for registration in August. Tho next date is October 9. It is tho duty of every voter that ho or she should call on the registrar of their district to see that their names are properly entered on the new poll books. There havo been new books prepared, for each district, and with all caro possible errors may have been made. A voter's name may be misspelled mis-spelled or omitted, or a wroiig address given, all of which will causo the voter a great delay when going to the polls to yolc. This trouble can bo easily avoided if, as suggested, tho voters will sco that thejf are correctly registered. regis-tered. Thero is anothor mistalco mado by some registrars in allowing tho wifo lo register in her husband 's initials instead in-stead of with her own Christian name. This must be corrected before tho person per-son can vote. By attonding to these matters today much annoyance may be avoided. Judge H. H. Rolapp of Ogdon stated ; yesterday that tho anuouueomont that no has switched to be a Republican, and ! that for that reason he had not attend- ' od tho meeting of tho Domocratic Stale 1 committee at. Saltair on Thursday, was ' premature. "The reason J did not at- ' tend the meeting was that I was sick 1 at tho time. It is too early to announce my change to the Republican party, and iJLhjuatjojajL3CQi .become convertod-L' i-l |
