Members of the Typographical union, employed in a union .job office, have refused to set type for the biennial report re-port of Attornoy-Goncr.il M. A. Brccdcu. and, ns a result, the printing of that report, is delayed indefinitely. As printed exclusively in The Tribune yesterday yes-terday morning, the contract for printing print-ing the report w.i3 awarded, by tho State Board of Examiners, to the Deseret Des-eret News, which is non-union establishment, estab-lishment, and by it sub-let to tho The executive committee of the Typographical Ty-pographical union will meet this afternoon after-noon to consider the matter. Leading members of tho union declare, however, thnt the News will cither have to print tho contract itself, or else tho State will have to award the -contract over again, and let. it tn a union shop outright out-right before they will permit it to bo set by union men. The executive committee today will also consider tho question of the printing print-ing and binding the legislative journals jour-nals at the close of the present session. ses-sion. The State Board of Examiners awarded the Deseret Xews the contract for binding Iho journals, while the Legislature let the contract for printing print-ing them to a union shop. Printers declare that tl)is arrangement will not be carried out that if the journals are to be printed at all in a union shop, thev must, be bound bv a similar establishment, es-tablishment, and thai if they are to be hound by a non-union shop, they must be printed there also.r Interesting developments de-velopments are promised at, the executive ex-ecutive committee meeting today. Tn December the State Board of Examiners Ex-aminers awarded contracts for the State and Legislature printing for the year to the following firms:' Skellon publishing pub-lishing company. Tribune-Reporter companv. com-panv. Century Printing company. Grocer Gro-cer Printing company, Kelly & Company and the Deseret News, All of these firms run union shops except, the Deseret Des-eret News. In each instance the con tracts were awarded lo tho lowest bidder bid-der on th particular class of work specified in tne contract. |
