Show DEATH OF T. C. POUJADE. The death of Theodore Clement Poujado, who was bulled In Calvary cemetery on last Saturday, leaves another vacancy ln the ranks of tho pioneers of the West. Ho was born In Ohio, seventy-four years ago. Ills father, who was a phvslrlon, was an American citizen, of French birth. His mother was of English descent. His childhood and early youth wore passed In Ohio. Louisiana and Illinois. In 1817, at the ago of 17 years, hn camo "across the plains" and sr ttlcd In Oregon, then a Territory. There, In 1851, ho married mar-ried Miss Margaret Co?grove, who bore him one Eon, Joafcph, now a resident of Carson Clt. Nevada. Later he moved to Idaho, went Into the hotel business, and mado a fortune, which he lose In tho great fires that destroyed Idaho City ln 1S65 and 1SC7. In 1SG0 ho went to Elko. Nov.. and in 1S70 to Ploche. where he engaged in merchandising, mer-chandising, lie was a good business man, and succeeded to such an extent that between be-tween the years 1S77 and 1S31 ho established estab-lished flourishing branch stores, In each of which a partner was interested with him, at Silver Tteef, in Utah, and at Ward and Taylor, In Whit Pine county. New ln Taylor he was part owner In one of the principal mines, and sold his intoreBt for a considerable sum of money. He also aided In tho development of the Osceola gold placer mines. The largest nugget till then dlecovored ln Nevada, valued at over J300O, was found In a claim which he and hlo partners wOro th,en working at that place. In 187-1. at Ploche. New. his wife. dlsd. and ln 18S0 he married Ellen, (ho widow of James Honrahnn, who survives hlin. lie was nn active man. full of vigor, and led a useful lire. A short time ago It flcemed neccwary that he should submit to a Hitrglcal operation, from which, notwithstanding not-withstanding his apparent fltrcngth. ho failed lo recuperate, although everything that lov and linman skill could do was done to save bin life He was a square man and a practical Christian, and the Interna sufferings Of hla last days were ameliorated by the consolations con-solations of religion through the ministrations ministra-tions of the church of which he had all his lifo been & devout member. His wlfo and his Bon were at his bcdsldo when he died. |
