Show HAWKEYE STATE IS FOR HEARST Newspaper Man Captures Iowa State Democratic Convention His Dolegates Selected. DES MOINES, la,, May 4. William R. Hearst swept thc field in the Iowa State Democratic convention held here today. He had a ma-orlty ma-orlty of over 1&0 ln thc convention and Hearst resolutions were adopted, the Hearst delegations from thc contested counties were seated and Hearst delegates dele-gates were selected and thc convention Instructed to vote as a unit and stands by Charles Welsh as member of thc National committee. The convention was boisterous and tho orators, of whom there were many on both sides, were hlHsed, some of them being driven from the stage. Congressman M. J. Wade, the only Democratic Congressman from Iowa; J. W. Sullivan, late candidate for governor; gover-nor; M. F. Healy, who came out of a retirement of six years to do It, and others, appealed to their party ln vain against Instructions. Tho Hearst people peo-ple would llston to no compromise and Wade and Sullivan do not appear on the delegation. It is headed by J. M. Parsons of Rock RnpldB, thc other delegates dele-gates at large being Gen. James B. Weaver of Colfax, Judge William Carr of Manchester and S. E. Wadsworth of Council Bluffs. Cries of "bought," "brass collar," "how much did it cost," met thc Hearst spealers whenever they attempted at-tempted to speak and pandemonium reigned ln the convention. The resolutions adopted were miid. They include a parngraph touching the evils of taxation, etc., and lay greater stress on the trusts and point to William Wil-liam R. Hearst as tho champion of the anti-trust idea. The trust paragraph 13 as followa: "Second, that we recognize In the predatory pre-datory trusts the greater danger that has ever threatened the life of the nation na-tion and the welfare of the people, and denounce their scheme of levying tribute trib-ute upon all producers and consumers as a modern system of brigandage, which, while masquerading under the cloak of the law, in fact makes of law a mockery and Justice n farce. In utter ut-ter disregard of the natural and constitutional consti-tutional rights of the farmer, the mer- , chants and the great army of wage-earners, wage-earners, trusts have ruthlessly seized upon every branch of production and distribution until every avenue of human hu-man endeavor is compelled to be at the behests of these conscienceless criminals crim-inals and pay trlbuto or cease to exist, "Third, that we denounce the vicious tariff system fostered nnd perpetuated by the Republican party, under which the trusts have been born, bred, fattened fat-tened and Bpeclo multiplied until they have every industrial IntercEt by the throat, and we demand the repeal of every tariff which denies 'equal oppor-tuntltes oppor-tuntltes for all.'
