had been admired generally and Charleys hat was well filled The sum collected was 2310 which made a welcome wel-come addition to the treasury In the meantime Capt Rex was encouraging his men lie admitted that there had been too much Individual playing Loo much grandstand work and he told them that team work was necessary If I Perseverance was to win The playing In the second half was fast and scientific on both sides For ten minutes there was no scoring then the Rangers center got the puck on a poor pass and shot It home Score 32 Perseverance quickly tied the score on a clever combination play In which faultless passing by the forwards brought the puck so close to he I goal that Jack Higglns had no difficulty in sliding It between the posts The score was now 33 and the crowd cheered formidable quartette took the Rangers by storm and soon only the gojltnder was to be passed At this point the real value of the triangular formation was proved The goalkeeper caught Will on the hip with a body lct before he could take the puck Rex had rushed forward and caught It In his stick Had the fourabreast formation been used all four would have been off side when Will was thrown out of the play As It was however Rex quickly reached the open and with a well directed lift sent the puck spinning between the posts just at the call of time and Perseverance Per-severance had won 13 1 I The spectators swarmed upon the Ice and triumphantly carried the boys off the field on their shoulders A bonfire had been built and Capt Rex doubly the hero of the day was brought forward for-ward and urged to make a speech This I ho modestly declined to do but every I one wanted to shako hands with him and altogether he got all that was coming to him In the Joy of their first victory tho boys
