con-nection with the horse shoe next fall Utah has never had a bench show and the Idea promIses t prom-ises to become a popular one The Idea was suggested to The Tribune recently I re-cently by W W Thompson of Eureka a famous dog fancier and a recognized I authority on tine dogs Mr Thompson Js in large part responsible for giving Utah some ot the best animals now owned here and his influence would doubtless go a long way toward bringIng bring-ing fine dogs in from outside the State It would not be necessary however to get dogs from outside to hold a successful success-ful show Utah already has a large number of splendid thoroughbred dogs and there IK a constantlygrowing tendency ten-dency on the part of the lovers of dogs In the State to get more thoroughbred animals The record of Shelby Fern more the St Bernard raised In Utah by Mr Thompson goes far toward proving that the Utah climate is adapted to the finest breeds and those Interested in thoroughbred dogs bellee that with the holding of a bench show or two here interest In the matter would be so stimulated that In a few years Utah would be sending prizewinners prize-winners of all breeds to the big shows of the country Alex 13 Lee of Murray who has been connected with prominent kennel clubs in England and who has a fine pack of hounds at Murray is at the head of a movement to organize the Intermoun lain Kennel club with a view to holding annual bench shows and his plan has met with the heart cndorrement of all owners of blooded dogs who have been approached with regard to It A coursing club has already been Informally In-formally organized In Salt Lake county with ten dr fifteen members and a coyote or rabbit chase Is enjoyed weekly The idea Is a new one here but with an abundance of rabbits und coyotes In this neighborhood the coursing has been very successful this season and those owning greyhounds stag hounds and toy hounds aro planning the formation of a regular coursing club with a view to giving a State match at the State fair each year PIctures of a few of the many good dogs of the State arc given herewith The dogs shown are types of only I a few of the many breeds represented
