Show SITUATION IN CUBA j Henry T Oxnard R Talk With President 1 Presdent on Reciprocity V Washington March JHenr T Oxnard Ox-nard who Is at the head of the beet sugar Industry in this country had V a talk with President Roosevelt today In regard to the propOsed Cuban reduc tion In which he urged the view that t rebate such as was proposed by Rep resentative Tawney would give the re lief desired and have the additional advantage ad-vantage over a tariff concession of C lrl r go Ing directly to tho Cuban planters SO Mr Oxnard also called the attention of the President to the report from Europe that the Internallonal sugar conference had agreed upon the abo lition of all sugar bounties direct and Indirect and told the President that such action would settle the whole prdblem by raising the price of sugar throughout the world For this rea son he contended that there thcr was 0 no reason for hasty action r J Tho President listened attentively to atcnlvelYlo what Mr Oxnard had to say but said little himself beyond reiterating ation position In Cuba In favor of relieving the situ hIS I I i |
