Show 1 BUSY TIMES AT HATCHERY Commissioner Sharp Has Distributed 800000 Trout Pry and Has a Million Moro Ready The State hatchery Is doing a land office business In the distribution of Eastern brook trout fry State Gamo and Fish Commissioner John Sharp said yesterday that If 1 he could make the hatchery double Its present capacity he would be able to supply more fish than the people In Utah could eat He said he hoped the next Legislature would allow al-low him enough money to put the hatchery In proper shape About 3 percent per-cent of the spawn hatched Is deposited In the streams by the fish In tho natural way and when a stream has once been fished out It takes a long time to replenish re-plenish IU In the hatchery over 95 percent per-cent of all the spawn can be hatched and when the fish are about a month old they can be placed In the streams by tho million An Eastern brook trout will grow to weigh nearly a pound In one year Mr Sharp has already distributed dis-tributed 500000 Eastern brook trout fry and there still remain In the hatchery a million and a quarter of the same kind of fish Mr Sharp said that as the Eastern brook trout grew much faster than tho natives he would plant them In all the stream Mr Sharp Is making arrangements at the hatchery for the production of Utah spawn lie has mado two large ponds with an area of one aero each which will be stocked with breeders Mr Sharp said that from these two ponds he would be able to secure all the apawn necessary for a seasons work He has to Import all the spawn at present pres-ent and then hatch It here He has cnmmQJ1Jldth hID1D 9rt tall th t-all parts of tho State JId |
