Show ROBBED IN DAYLIGHT Railroad Man Held Up at 5 Oclock THEROBBERS WERE POLITE Andrew Wilkinson Hailed by Two Men in a Buggy at Third South and West Temple and Asked for a Match Wilkinson Furnished the Match a Chow Was Taken All Around and a Pleasant Time Had Strangers Then Held Wilkinson Up for S2110 A holdup of unusual boldness occurred oc-curred at the corner of Third South and West Temple street last evening about 5 oclock while it was yet quite light Andrew Wilkinson a car Inspector m spector for the Short Line railroad who lives at CSS West South Temple street was the victim and his loss was 2110 As Wilkinson relates the story ho was walking south on the west side of West Temple street and Just before reaclftig Third south two men driving in the same direction in an open buggy drawn by a single horse pulled up by l the sidewalk and as they halted one of ihern asked Wilkinson for a match Wilkinson complied with therequest and as the men showed a disposition to be friendly Wilkinson also grew sociable and took a chew of tobacco ALL HANDS TOOK A CHEW At tills point says Wilkinson one of the holdups leisurely alighted from the buggy saying that lie Just felt like taking a chew himself The other man followed his I companion and remarked that IU might as well be unanimous and they would all chew When ono man had sampled life plug It was passed to the other and Mr Wilkinson wan getllrig Interested in his newly made and pleasant acquaintances He wasthen greatly grieved by the action of thug No 1 1 who suddenly held a gun against Wilkinsons face and said I Hold up your hands I dont know the caliber of the gun said Wilkinson but it looked bigger than all my money so I ran my hands into the air as high as I could reach The robber then told mo to put my hands down lower ns some one might sec me and I again obeyed While I was standing there in front of the gun the other man went through my pockets They were very genteel about I It anti neither ono of them snbke loud or swore AND QUIETLY DROVE AWAY After the robbery Wilkinson says the men got into the buggy and hurriedly drove south while he followed at a safe dlHlance with indefinite ideas oC what to do He met two boys and told them lo notify the police while he kept track of the robbers He lost sight of the holdups at Eighth South street Wilkinson who works nights then went to the railroad yards and not feeling proud of his part in the transaction transac-tion decided to do nothing further about the affair His fellowwoukmen ± however how-ever notified tile police who requested that Wilkinson come to the police station sta-tion and he complied with the request Wilkinson says the men were both heaVyset about 30 or 55 years old One of them had a Tloman nose both were dressed like 1 I ordinary mechanics and he is sure he can identify both of them if he faces them again |
