Show CVK BANNISTER DEAD I WellKnown Ogden Engineer Passes Away DEATH CAUSES DEEP REGRE < J 1I 1 I Attack of Pneumonia Results Fatally I After Illness of Five Days Mr Bannisters Record as a Civil Eng near One of Great Efficiency Was an Important Figure in Bringing to Success the Pioneer Power Project Long Experience in Railroad Service Ser-vice I I I J I Ogden Jan 10lIon C K Bannis ter died at thcRced hotel at 6 oclock this morning of pneumonia lie was sick but five days the disease having seized him In its most aggravated form and he delirious for the past two days The end camo peacefully however and he passed away without a struggle Charles K Bannister was one of the most widely known men In the West through his connection as a civil engineer en-gineer with many railroad and oilier enterprises He was born In Case novla N Y In 1817 where he resided until 19 years of age when he went to Evanston 111 I I and entered Northwestern Northwest-ern university of which his father H M Bannister was the head Here he graduated with high honors then joined an engineering corps and went JIM < I C K Bannister Ito I-to Minnesota for his health While In I Minnesota he became division engineer of the Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Chicago Northwestern railroads In 1SS7 he went to Cheyenne as division I divi-sion engineer of the Union Pacific and later built the Cheyenne Northern from Cheyenne to Douglass Wy6 About this time Donald McLean conceived con-ceived the Idea of building the Pacific Short Line from Sioux City to Ogden and Mr Bannister was made chief engineer en-gineer tho compan coming to Og den in 1SS9 The financial panic coming com-ing on the road was only completed to Ponca Neb Mr Bannister remained in Ogden and in 1S9G was made chief engineer and genera manager of the Union Light and Power company and built the great power plant In Ogden canyon He also built the canal forty miles long through Plain c City for that company At the time of his death Mr Bannis ter was consulting engineer of the Utah Light and Power company chief engineer engi-neer of the Butte Power company chief engineer of the Weber Canyon Power company and a director in the Salt Lake Ogden railroad He leaves a wife and two children Edward W and Emily and a large number of relatives In Evanston and Kcwaunec Ill and Kansas City Mo The latter have been telegraphed of his death and the funeral arrangements arrange-ments will not be made until after they have been heard from The ceremonies will likely be under the charge of the Masons of which order he was a mem ber |
