Show Heart Assn. Names 3 State Winners Three Science Fair projects on Heart were today named winners of $50 awards from the Utah Heart Association, it was announced an-nounced by Dr. James F. Orme, UHA president. Judged on a statewide basis, the winning projects and the students responsible for thdir preparation are: "The Heart Beat of a Frog," Craig Barr Taylor, Olympus High School; "The Heart," Richard W. Nyeswander, Clayton Junior High School, and "Experimental Hypertension in Rats," a joint project of Ann Bagley and Ruth Ann Christiansen, Christian-sen, Bountiful High School. The latter two students will share the $50 award for their project. In announcing the selections, Dr. Orme said: "The Utah Heart Association feels keenly it's responsibility re-sponsibility to the youth of our state. We have tried to stimulate interest in Scientific Careers through providing resource persons per-sons and materials for class par ticipation. We also sponsor, each year, tours to research laboratories labora-tories for science interested students. stu-dents. It is our hope that our efforts, either directly or vicariously vicari-ously may have been a stimuli to students to prepare projects on the heart for the annual Science Sci-ence Fair and to seriously consider con-sider a career in the field of science." The four students receiving the awards have been invited to attend the 11th Annual Dinner meeting of the association and display their winning projects. The event will be held May 28th at 7 p.m. in the Terrace Room jof the Prudential Federal Savings Sav-ings Auditorium, 3300 South and State Street. |
