I Resolutions adopted included the following: Supported the Kennedy Administration's Ad-ministration's domestic and foreign for-eign policies. Praised the Canyonlands National Na-tional Park y proposal of Sen. Frank E. Moss and charged that Sen. Wallace Fj. Bennett and Gov. George D. Clyde were trying try-ing to "confuse the issue." Favored legislative action to reapportion the state to reflect current population trends. Urged revision of the state's election laws to shorten the time and expense of campaigns for public office. National Committeeman Calvin Cal-vin W. Rawlings, in an address to the convention, noted that the U.S. Steel price battle had spotlighted spot-lighted the differences between the Republican and Democratic parties. CARL II. TAYLOR Utah Democrats this week had a new state chairman. He is Stephen P. Smoot, Salt Lake City businessman and until one month ago Salt Lake County Democratic chairman. f Mr. Smoot was elected without opposition at the party's organization organ-ization convention last Saturday at The Terrace. He succeeds D. Frank Wilkins who did not run for re-election. On election contest at the convention con-vention saw Mrs. Sevilla A. Reese, Magna, re-elected vice-chairman vice-chairman over Mrs. Norma N. Andreason by a vote of 535 to 322. Both women campaigned on a basis of past and future service to the party. Other officers elected without opposition were Carl H. Taylor of Ogden, treasurer, and Donald B. Holbrook, Salt Lake City, secretary.- Convention speakers included |
