The Denver Xnot, of a recent date published pub-lished the following: For many months the Salt Lake papers have been urging the construction of what is known as the Salt Lake & Los Angeles railway. In fact. Salt Lake has been for years trying to get a California connection that will give to that city competition with the Central Pacific. The object is one worthy of the time and brain and money, that has been event In the effort to secure it. Salt Lake capitalists have been frequently urged to subscribe a certain equal sum within their known means and make a start. Then the completed section could be bonded for the cash with which to build another section, and so on until the road reached the Pacific. The suggestion is heroic, and serviceable service-able as well, for it will demonstrate Salt Lake faith in the enterprise. Then, t30, the Rio Grande Western will be glad to aid such a line, while, if it can be gotten into San Francisco, there is the $5,000,C00 subsidy promised a new line by the merchants of that city. It cannot be many years before such a road must be built, and Denver will realize great benefit from its construction. But outside of a few short and evidently necessary extensions or connections, there will be very little railroad building in the far West for some years to come certainly not until there is a very decided change in the money market and silver is quoted at f 1.29 an ounce.
