The authorities of the i neighboring towns were telegraphed j lo for aid. Tiie fire began in the ' buildings of tlie Church family, in tho centre of the village, and at half-past 2 eight buildings had been destroyed, the largest of which was worth $-10,-000. Siiaker village is located at a high elevation, in a very exposed position. po-sition. There is a continuous row of wooden building-, which line both sides of tlie straight street for nearly a mile. It has no fire apparatus, and but a moderate supply of water.
