Tho examination of Matt Kerrigan, who shot and wounded Mrs. Ann Walsh, April 25th last, at Sucker Fiat, was hold yesterday, resulting re-sulting in the discharge of Kerrigan, on tho ground that tho shooting was done in sclf-dcfcnso, tho testimony fully justifying tho discharge. In March, 1870, Kerrigan was arrested on suspicion of being the murderer of a miner named Dumphey, who was at work on the Browney claim near Tim-buctoo. Tim-buctoo. An examination was had at the time, aud the prisoner discharged: Since the arrest of Kerrigan for the shooting of Mrs. Walsh, sufficient evidence evi-dence has been obtained to warrant the officers in arresting Michael Walsh, as principal, and Matt Kerrigan and Mrs. Ann Walsh as accessories, to the murder mur-der of Dumphey. A girl named Mary Hcllron will be brought from Oroville to day, supposed to be an important witness in tho case. Walsh and Mo-Kerrian Mo-Kerrian are now in jail awaiting ao examination. Mrs. Walsh is still suffering suf-fering from the effects of her wounds. |
