Show A dispatch from St. George informs in-forms us that Powell and Ingalls have distributed presents to tho Indians who had been so long waiting for these gifts; and that the goals are of a better quality than usual. The lust item may be easier understood, perhaps, per-haps, by referring to'a dispatch from Washington, which says Ingalls has telegraphed tho Indian bureau, and from the report made he has evidently evident-ly painted Indian affairs in Southern Utah and South-eastern Nevada a beautiful rose-colored tint. He has furnished the Indians a superior quality of presents, and has doubtless made them many specious promises ; and ho hastens to let it be known in Washington that the chiefs of seven tribes arc rcady to go on to the Muddy reservation; the seven tribes to be thus treat oil having their reservation troubles in the future. Out of how much is it proposed to swindle government to pay for the improvements on that " reservation," which were made by Mormon hands and for which the "jumpers" now seek compensation? And how long will -the seven tribes be on the reservation before the mouldy bacon business is resumed? |
