Mr. Stiiincs was cultctl and testified as follows: fol-lows: "I liavc papers in my possession posses-sion wliich were k-voh to me by Sir HiirIi Allan and McMullcn. The package contained three envelopes, one addressed to Allan MeMullen, and the other to myself. They were handed to mc by Sir Hugh Allan in the presence of McMullen. I objected ob-jected to their hemp: opened without their consent," The letter from !Sir Hugh Allan was then read in the presence of MeMulIen. He had no objection to the package being opened, provided that nothing contained in it would be published except what had bearing on the investigation. .Staines then said ho had objection to the package addressed to McMullcn being opened. He had no knowledge of the Pacific charter. The case then, adjourned ad-journed till to-morrow uoon.
