Show TcxitH Kieuks Plainly. Austin, Texas, 4. The convention was called to order at 10:30 a.m. The committee reported Col. Hubbard for permanent chairman. Col. Hubbard made a speech, thanking the convention conven-tion for the honor conferral, and advised ad-vised unity and harmony. J. Bird, of Bell county, oflered a resolution, approving ap-proving Col. McKenzic's mid into Mexico, and punishment of Indians on the frontier, which was adopted. J. W. Steele introduced a resolution, saying: Whereas: The government of the State of Louisiana, elected by the voice of the people, has, by the usurpation usurp-ation of unjust judges sustained-by Federal bavonetet, been disregarded and usurped; therefore, be it Rraolvod, That the overthrow of the government elected by the people of Louisiana and the setting up of a bayonet bay-onet government over them, is without with-out foundation, is in violation of the rights of the people of said State, as it is contrary to the genius of government, govern-ment, State and Federal law. |
