Show Work For the Weber Club That is an excellent suggest that the Weber club take some action in regard to the proposed moving of the repeating offices of the Western Union from Ogden to Salt Lake There is no use in disguising the fact that there is danger of such a move being made I is not wisdom to ignore the strength of Salt Lakes claims That city has outgrown its present telegraphic facilities fa-cilities Its telegraphic business is much heavier in proportion to that of Ogden for in Salt Lake are located the only Utah papers taking the Associated sociated Press news service I is the capital of the state and is an important import-ant commercial center for this region All these things considered separately argue for the proposed change espec ally when it is considered that unless this change is made a through wire service must be given to Salt LaKe Now right here is work for the Weber club Let a committee be appointed to show to the Western Union officers that Ogden must grow in the future fully as rapidly as Salt Lake has grown in the past Let that committee commit-tee point out that since the visit of the Western Union officials to thi3 city there has been insured to Ogden beyond the possibility of a doubt a Mr0000 beet sugar factory which is but the forerunner of other enterprises of the kind Let them give Salt Lake the special wire service She needs it and her prospects warrant it but to change the repeating service to Salt Lake would be expensive costing they say 40000 When it is doe there is at least 7 miles of line to keep up for which there is no call except to save the special wIre service to Salt Lake The lines of course would have to run to Salt Lake and thence back I I would thus pass twice over the wind swept regions in front of Weber canyon can-yon This must create more ex eise and impair the through service Other things being equal the repeating offices should remain in Ogden just as surely as a straight line is the shortest distance dis-tance between two points Let it be shown that other things are to be equal that Ogden is at the flood tine of her fortunes that she is the presunt railroad center has the graavjst iatu ral supply of electrical power of any city in the west and that manufac turing enterprises are coming which must make this city a most commanding command-ing commercial center I all these things are shown as they can be shown by the Weber club we believe the Western Union will give Salt Lake the special wire service and leave the repeating offices in Ogden Coming Amusements In the way of amusements Ogden is pretty well provided for this week To begin with there is The Chimes of Normandy by the Salt Lake Opera company whi h comes up tonight by a special Short Line train The Oregon Short Line offered to take The Chimes of Normandy ompany to Boise and Pocatello as well as Ogden Og-den Provo and Logan but the various occupations of the clever singers would not allow them to make so extended a trip at the present time Besides when the company goes on the road for a tour of a week i wishes to have several operas in its repertoire Very likely A Trip to Africa will be taken up next and with that opera The Chimes of Normandy The Mascot and Patience the company could dod do-d great weeks business in any of the northern or northwestern cities The next venture ot the company The Chimes of Normandy will be seen here this evening Popular prices will be the rule Wii I On the 9th 10th and llth of the I month the HosmerRoss Dramatic company will play in repertoire giving one performance of Faust < 0 0 Friday evening Madame Genevra Johnstone Bishop assisted by Fellows the noted tenor will appear in the tabernacle for a concert I t Veno Breaks Down I Veno the Healer who operated in I Ogden and absconded when his moth I otis were exposed has found great depths of tribulation at Butte The InterMountain says As an evidence of how badly D N Dickinson feels over his convictions it may be stated that he broke down completely today and wept like a child He asked C P Connolly the chief at the county attorneys at-torneys office to save him from the disgrace of going to the penitentiary but Mr Connolly could do nothing for him I is believed that Dickinson would kill himself i he had half a chance He is the worst broken up man in the county today and what makes his grief greater is the thought of the fact that William Newton the petit larcenist attorney who robbed him of 125 tapped the jailers desk for 225 belonging to a prisoner who is liable to be hanged for murder was allowed to leave the state of ois own free will Local Briefs a Listen for The Chimes of Normandy Norman-dy tonight The regular dance in the Union Opera House will occur on Tuesday night next Twins Both girls Born Saturday This is what makes the vast substantial substan-tial smile on the countenance of Joseph H Thomas these days Julian C Houtz returned yesterday morning from Pocatello Jensen of Brighamsays Conference being open we separated by couples in the direction of the four winds My field of labor is on the southeast coast of Norway for which place I embarked I in company with Brother Joseph T Torgensen of Ogden Utah The Brigham Bugler seems a bit nettled at Juggler Eliason because the wizard used that paper in one of his feats of legerdemain first holding i up to show that theres nothing in it The Bugler is a bit hasty Audiences will remember that after all there was a great deal in that paper In fact i was a veritable horn of plenty out of which all manner of things rolled including in-cluding a miniature American flag Early yesterday morning Janey Thomas Whitaker wife of S T I Whitaker died suddenly at her home The deceased stepped into the hallway to
