Show LATEST FROM SdEPuCTTB I Review of Operations at the Great Gold Camp Mercur Dec 5The report that one or the other mines in Mercur has run out of ore seems to be a periodical affair fair and is usually sprung by some one unacquainted with the vast ore bodies existing in the district Those acquainted ac-quainted with the camp are aware of the fact that instead of working out the vein the producing mines are opening up large bodies of ore the existence ex-istence of which was unsuspected previously In the Mercur mine where two years ago the vein was supposed to be worked out all through the summer sum-mer a large open cut was worked and thousands of tons of ore run through the mill I was only the approach of cold weather which caused a cessation of work on the hill side and a transfer of the men underground In the Sacramento a large open cut has been worked showing the vein to be 70 feet thick and of good milling values Within the last few months the Mercur found a vein lower than any previously worked and although a shaft has been sunk into it a distance of 30 feet the footwall ha not yet been reached The experience at the Brickyard Brick-yard has been similar one vein being found underlying the others The same conditions exist in the GeyserMarion It was reported as much a two years agp that the Marion company had worked out their ore but since that time the extraction has gone steadily forward with no more reason to believe the than beleve ore was exhaustedthan it was in the beginning In the West Geyser a large body of ore was opened up last spring which is a yet practically untouched During Dur-ing the summer drifts were run in different dif-ferent directions in the vein and seven I shafts sunk on the vein in the way of exploration and it was found the vein was 35 feet thick and of good milling g value What ore was taken out during I dur-ing the summer was hauled to the mill by team Since the approach of cold weather this part of the programme was discontinued dis-continued and a tunnel was commenced com-menced at the mill about 50 feet below the old workings to tap the large ore body in the West Geyser In these tunnels before proceeding far a nIce body of ore was discovered which is being run through the mill in short to use the words of one of the officers of the onmnruiv there is five times as much ore in sight at the Geyser Marion than there was a year ago To the initiated there are no fears entertained en-tertained a to the value of the property prop-erty and the report of a lack of ore only causes a smile I From the way claim owners are rustling to complete their assessments there will not be many claims in the district open for location on the first of January Considerable interest is taken in the movements of Colonel Val in relation rela-tion to the Hecla His experience in the district and his luck in locating the vein added to nis nowledge of the ground around the Hecla makes it apparently a sure thing that he will succeed in locating the vein where others have failed nitis expected that work will be inaugurated some time tme this week At the Seas the work is going steadily I stead-ily ahead In the former workings the shaft was sunk 3SO feet and a drift run northwest from the 300foot level I At present the workmen are crosscutting cross-cutting the vein in the drift and an incline being sunk on the dip of the vein has reached a distance of 75 feet In both places the material taken outlooks out-looks well and your correspondent is assured the assays are encouraging I j |
