Show I MINING IX IDAHO Operations in the Yellow Jaclcet and Blade Bird Camps Western Mining World Yellow Jacket Lemhi county Idaho is situated on Yellow Jacket creek a tributary of the Middle Fork of the Salmon river and is 130 miles from Red Rock Montana our nearest railroad point The Yellow Jacket district including in-cluding the new camps of Black Bud and Wilson creek is one of the richest spots in Idaho I not in the west The present population of Yellow Jacket is about 300 The Yellow Jacket Gold company is the only property worked extensively at present The Coleman Placer company worked about forty men all summer and closed Sown In November without making a cleanup The ground is very rich and they expect to make a 50000 cleanup next fall The Idaho Yellow Jacket Gold company com-pany is under the efficient management of P J Cirkel The property of this company covers some 600 acres in lode claims They have sixty stamps dropping drop-ping at present This sixtystamp mill is one of the finest equipped mills in the northwest and has a capacity of 200 tons a day The ore is delivered at the mill by a tramway about one half a mile in length They are building build-ing at present a new tramway from their No3 tunnel which will have a capacity ca-pacity of 300 tons a day The mill mine and saw mill are lighted by electricity The company has a fine of 400horsepower water power some 400horsepowe1 a flume over one mile in length gives them a fall of 160 feet and the power is generated by three Pelton wheels The ore body is from twenty to I sixty feet wide and they estimate they have a years ore in sight at present The past year 480 feet have been driven driv-en in their No 3 tunnel and a large doublecompartment upraise connecting connect-ing No 3 tunnel with No 2 level 251 feet above has been completed tapping tap-ping a large body of new ground The general formation of Yellow Jacket hill is talc slate and quartzite anti is cut in almost every direction by dykes of porphyry The past year has been a very successful one under Mr Cir kels management The company has done a great deal of dead work besides building a large flume and putting in forty additional stamps The property owned by the new Columbia Co-lumbia Gold Mining company in this district comprises three groups The Columbia Lincoln and Estevan The Columbia group is the most important and covers Cleveland hill the property is developed by sixteen tunnels The country rock is the same as Yellow y Jacket hill The veins are contact fissures fis-sures and the ore averages in gold from 10 to 15 but is mostly base The development shows an unlimited amount of ore The company Is making mak-ing all arrangements to put up a chlo rinatlon mill some of the machinery being now in transit The Lincoln and Estevan group adjoin the Columbia Colum-bia and are developed by ten tunnels and numerous open cuts The character charac-ter of ore and formation is the same I as Columbia The company has ample water power The future of the company com-pany is very bright and as soon as the chlorination mill is in operation will be one of the producers of Lemhi There is a small force of men at work blocking out ore and Mr Armstead the superintendent reports a new strike on the Columbia of 30 ore40 per cent free milling He is making arrangements to start up their tenstamp mill and run all winter The Lincoln No 2 owned by Dan Steen is showing up well They have at present seven feet of good orethat will mill 30 to 40 and are going to have a millrun of 100 tons made On the other side of Columbia hill on what Is known as Hoodoo creek are some fine properties owned by Ed Ripley Co One group of claims comprising the Ramshorn Peacock Mammoth Aspen and Hidden Treasure has had a great deal of work done on them and show up a great deal of ore valued at from S16 to 18 Another group owned by the same parties comprising com-prising the Golden Leaf Iron Mask and Badger also has had a good deal of development work done ore is valued val-ued at 812 to 1 Black Bird camp was discovered last spring This is eight miles from the Yellow Jacket road and about thirty five miles from Salmon City and about eighteen miles from the Jacket in a direct line The general formation is slate and porphyry and very soft The first claims located were the Uncle Sam and Idaho by Joshua Brown and Sam James They have seven feet of ore that will average 30 The gold is very fine and evenly distributed I half interest in this claim sold this fall to T V Swift of Halley for 12000 cash and a Huntington mill which is to be in operation by May next There have been some seventyfive claims located this summer and the I necessary ten feet of work done on all of them Some of these claims are equally as good a the Uncle Sam if not better There are about thirty men working there now and a good deal of development work will be done by I spring Messrs Ford and Brown are running a cross tunnel 100 feet deep to tap the vein on the Brown Bear which on the surface is about thirty I five feet wide When they strike the ledge they will run on the ore for 300 I feet when they will crosscut for another an-other vein The gold in this vein is I very fine and evenly distributed this is true of almost all the ore in this camp and the average value of the ore is 12 This is one of the finest showings show-ings in the camp All the ore in this camp is more or less stained with copper and one ledge owned by Lane and Kerchner shows seven feet of copper ore which will average 30 per cent copper Messrs Bailey Pise Co have a sevenfoot ledge of ore valued at 35 per ton Messrs Coughlin and South have some I very fine ore which improves with depth in fact every claim in the camp has improved with depth |
