Show BOXT SUIT hIM Comptroller Eckels Has Little Hope From Legislation CHICAGO Jan 16Little hope Is entertained that any remedial financial finan-cial legislation will be passed at the present session of congress said James H Eckels comptroller of the currency today The house has passed the coin bond bill but unsatisfactory unsatis-factory a it is there is little hope of its passing the senate in any form that will be satisfactory to the house I passed at all by the senate it will be with a free silver amendment attached Under such circumstances i will not be necessary for President Cleveland necessar to veto such a measure because the house would not agreed to the amendment amend-ment The bond Issue is expected to afford temporar relief No doubt I entertained enter-tained for the sale being successful or of the whole Issue being taken Of course i is an open question whether the gold to be paid for the bonds will not be withdrawn from the United States treasury to pay for them Should that be done the relief afforded would be reduced just to the extent that the gold is withdrawn So long as the greenbacks are outstanding just so long will our national finances be in an unsatisfactory condition |
