Show r THE PEOPLES PARTY COMMITTEE WILL SELECT PLACE FOR NATIONAL CONVENTION Toitbeneck Has No Idea Whom His Party Will Nominate For President Presi-dent But Considers Sibley a Magnificent Man ST LOUIS Jan 16The following members of the national committee of the Peoples party arrived here today S to take part in the meeting of that party on Friday which is to name the time and place for holding the national na-tional convention Chairman H E Taubeneck of Illinois nois Colonel Tom Patterson of Colorado Colo-rado who was a member of the platform plat-form committee of the last national Democratic convention Senator Marion Ma-rion Butler of North Carolina Congressman Con-gressman John C Bell of Colorado Secretary J H Turner of Washington City D P Merritt of Wyoming S H Snyder of Kansas E H Gerry Brown of Massachusetts Judge C H Power of Indiana A Roselle who is chairman of the Peoples party state committee of Missouri and a member of the national committee General Weaver of Iowa exGovernor Waite Rankin of Indiana of Colorado and 11 C diana treasurer of the national committee com-mittee The committee is composed of 114 members Not over fifty of them are expected to attend the meeting the others will send proxies Mr H E Taubeneck chairman of the executive committee says nothing is yet known as to where or when the convention will be held Chicago St Louis Milwaukee Kansas City Omaha Indianapolis Dallas and Atlanta At-lanta want the convention and each one of them has friends in the committee com-mittee But at whichever place is selected se-lected there also will be a bimetallic union meeting and the union of these two elements will make one of the largest conventions ever held in this country Concerning the alleged movements to bring about a fusion of all the reform forces Mr Taubeneck says I have received a number of letters from influential in-fluential members of the party in various va-rious sections of the country suggesting suggest-ing that but as yet the matter ha not been formally or officially discussed discus-sed Nor do I know whether the committee com-mittee will deal with the subject at this meeting Mr Taubeneck declared that he had no idea yet whom his party would nominate for president He considered Sibley of Pennsylvania a magnificent man but did not look upon the endorsement en-dorsement by the free silverites of Sibley for president as at all binding on the Populists The concensus of opinion of the committeemen interviewed was that their national convention would not beheld be-held until both of the old parties put tickets in the feld |
