was very amusing Mary as is well known dislikes to have anything any-thing go to waste and makes systematic sys-tematic calls from house to house to collect castoff clothing food money or anything else Yesterday the thrifty relict of NOld Soldier called at a well known livery stable and asked to be given a number of banners and streamers which had done duty on the horses und vehicles hired by the stable keeper on election day Her request was granted and Mary was the most pleased woman m Ogden The gaudy lettering on the banners was in direct accord with her ideas of aesthetic rob ing Then and there she arrayed herself her-self in the fihery and truly Solomon in all his glory was never arrayed as was she and her costume represented as many different candidates as Jacobs Ja-cobs coat did colors She strutted off prouder by far than any fine lady ever was of a gown from Paris and she attracted much more attention The costume was decidedly new and fetching fetch-ing though made up in a style not down in the fashion books for this season The basque vas of white cheese cloth artistically figured with polka dots of mud and letters forming the words Republican Ticket A Marie Antoinette collar was crossed in front and one strip advised voters to elect William G Wilson and John C Child while the other strip suggested sug-gested that patriots should vote for Seaman Armstrong and low taxes The girdle was artistically draped and advised ad-vised people to put an X up by the rooster and let i go at something but the something was covered with plaited work suggesting that N J Harris was the proper man for county attorney attor-ney One of the balloon sleeves bespoke be-spoke support for A B Patton for state senator while the other whie suggested sug-gested that Thomas J Stevens should also be supported for that high office The colors In these streamers had run much more noticeably than the candidates candi-dates named and the effect was bizarre Indeed The skirt was composed of bunting bunt-ing cut full and containing such legends leg-ends a Vote for McKInley King for Congress Holbrook is the Man Vote the Rooster StraVgnt and Stra1gnt numerous num-erous other inscriptions more or less I fragmentary and grouped without reference I ref-erence to strict party lines As Mary went off up the street she attracted considerable attention In fact about every man woman and child within two blocks rushed to get a view of the costume and its queer wearer Marys heart overflowed with exultation exulta-tion at the undisputed success of her new costume and within a little while a number of other squaws called at the livery barn to get cloth for similar simi-lar costumes but i was found that Mary had appropriated the whole bolt FUTTERtAL SERVICES Funeral services over the
