Show THE HORSE SHOW A GALA TIME IX NEW YORK LAST NIGhT Public Attention Equally Divided Between tIle Beauties in the Boxes and the Beasts on the Floor 0 NEW YORK Nov Tonight society in the gayest raiment turned out in force at Madison Square garden presented a grand spectacle The crush was not so great as on other first horse show nights but there were few vacant seats and the broad prome naae was nuea wan a constantly moving throng whose members paid more attention at-tention to the beantles in the arena boxes than to the equine performers in the evening The boxes of the Goulds Wormsers Hecks Fellows Stokes Benedicts Bene-dicts Drexels Belmonts Whitneys Bron sons Gassetts Taylor and Stevens had their usual horse show occupants None of the Vanderbilts were present Mr O H P Belmont however was in evidence A HASTY VIEW From a horse standpoint the show was better than its predecessors Every class was well filled and the grade of entries was higher than last year The class for fourinhands 14 to 15 hands in height brought out six excellent I excel-lent teams A wellmatched team of chestnuts owned by Louis W Wormser received the blue ribbon The red went to John Arthurs team In class 77 for saddle horses 21 were shown and after long contemplation Patsy McCord a Kentucky norse was given first In the light stepper class first and third were captured by the new Coach Horse and Cab company While showing in this class John S Bratton driving his horse Peacock before a high T cart had a spill but escaped unhurt un-hurt The final event of the evening was a jumping class over fences five feet two Inches five feet six inches and six feet high Twelve entries put in an appearance appear-ance Among the entries were Mrs S S EJowIamlb Lady Bird Hart Brothers Richmond P F Colliers Punch ando and-o her well known horses but all failed to clear the sis foot jump and the judges decided to make no awards In the class The poor light and unusual conditions were largely responsible for the failure of the jumpers The awards In the several sev-eral classes are as follows In the list of entries there are several notable absentees Those of William C Whitney W Seward Webb and the members mem-bers of the Vanderbilt family will be missed Some of the best known exhibitors exhibi-tors from out of town are E A Barton I Bar-ton Hinsdale Ills Adam Beck London Ont J B Cameron Marietta Pa A J Cassatt Berwyn Pa Horace N Urossley Ontario Can W J Sampson Youngstown 0 and C J and H Ham lin Buffalo N Y The first class to be signed into the riig at noon was jumpers for preliminary trial At 2 oclock the trumpet flared and harness horses In class 47 came up for I ribbons and after an hours trying the judges awarded the blue rosette to C F Bates brown gelding Coxey while second sec-ond prize went to George B Hulmes Great Scott and the red rosette to Bates second string Amazon T M Hilllards Flash was highly commended Class 2S brought out five French coaching coach-ing stallions fouryearold or over kept for service M W Dunham of Wayne Ills swept the boards with his Indre Perfection and Urbin while Partisan bred by the same exhibited by E W Barton of Hillsdale was a magnificent type of his kind Col Kip was an absentee from the roadster class this year and first prize went to C W Reed of Erie Pa for Alice Leyburn a nice looking mare by Baron WJlkes The red rosettes went to Holm dale a handsome bay gelding owned by William Pollack of PIttsfield Mass while the Village Farms entry King Bird was awarded the yellow ribbon rib-bon John S Bretteit of Englewood Ills showed a nice pair in The Czar and The Sultan which took the crowd by I storm O HTI P Belmonts pair Rock I 1 ia t 3 1 bU c uu rosette for Monarch and Performer who carried all before them last year had to put up with the red ribbon today The winners were a showy pair but lacked the ccnformaiiion of Mr Hobarts cracks C F Bates Aspiration and Ambition got third and a handsome pair owned by E D Morgan were highly commended Class 78 saddle horses 15 hands and under 152 hands threeyearold or over up to carrying 160 poundsSpark first Uenzl second Pennant owned by John S Bratton Englewood Ills third Class 1 stallions threeyearold or over Favordale ten years first Judge Morrow second Lazzarone third Class 101 Jumping class open to all Kensington first Merry Boy second Sweet Brier third Class 64 fourinhand teams 14 hands and upwards Louis Wormsers team or chestnuts Don Wilkes Rose Mary His Excellency and Lady Adele first i > oL 2 Lr 2EiJLd John Arthurs team second J JDIckman and Browns team third Class 77 saddle horses 15 hands and under 152 hands threeyearold or over up to carrying 160 poundsPatsy Mc Cord chestnut C L Bailey Lexington Ky first Emperor second Chester third Class 44 high steppers 142 hands and under 152 handsAladdin first Surprise second Coxey thrd Class 105 for the best performance on hunters or jumpers over fences five feet two inches five feet six inches and six feet high no awards |
