hard enough to put Scaldy out Both were pretty well done up at the I end of the sixth but OBrien had the S round well in hand He blocked most of Bills leads and the tetters swings when they landed lacked force In the seventh the Boston man jabbed until he had Sscaldys face bleeding and the colored boy very weak but game Scaldy was staggering around the ring and OBrien had his nose almost mashed into his face but the I bell again saved Bill I was only a question of time in the ninth and if OBrien could have landed a really hard blow Bill would have gone out Scaldy came up full of fight In the tenth but OBrien was too clever for him and stopped the rush Scaldys nose and mouth were bleeding and his left eye was nearly closed but despite the punishment he was receiving he was game and on his feet when the round closed Scaldy put his left hard on the body and swung a right on the jaw but a left on the neck from the Boston boy I sent Bill to his knees and took the steam out of him Quinns lip was a fearful sight Again and again OBrien forced the negro to his knees but could not put him out and the Boston man was getting weak from his own exertions exer-tions tons There were loud cries of foul in the twelfth because OBrien pasted his man with one hand free but no foul was allowed OBrien had Bill at his I mercy but could not get a good blow At last Scaldys seconds threw up the sponge after 2 minutes and 56 seconds of the thirteenth round and OBrien was declared the winner |
